About Alder Manor

A story of heritage, revival, and imagination
Alder Manor is a Renaissance Revival estate in Yonkers, New York, completed in 1912 and designed by Carrère & Hastings, the architects of the New York Public Library.
The house began as the historic W. B. Thompson estate, a weekend retreat above the Hudson, and today stands on North Broadway beside Untermyer Gardens.
Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, Alder Manor now opens its rooms, terraces and gardens to weddings, private celebrations, corporate gatherings and fashion and film productions, about thirty minutes from Columbus Circle.

THE ESTATE & ARCHITECTUR
Carrère & Hastings shaped the house as an Italian palazzo, with stone columns, formal terraces and rooms of true proportion.
Inside, carved wood paneling, ornamental plaster ceilings, marble fireplaces and tall windows give each room its own character.
The same firm designed the New York Public Library and the Frick mansion on Fifth Avenue; here their Beaux-Arts discipline meets the ease of a country house.
REVIVAL & RESTORATION
Every historic house asks for patience.
Restoration at Alder Manor moves room by room, guided by the original character of the house.
Some interiors are restored; others keep the patina of a century, which photographers and designers often prefer.
The house is a living restoration.
Planned next: overnight guest rooms, so guests can stay on the estate.
THE SPIRIT OF TODAY
Today Alder Manor hosts weddings, private celebrations, corporate retreats and fashion and film productions.
Its rooms have appeared in feature films, television and Vogue.
Couples and planners are free to bring the team they love.
About thirty minutes from Columbus Circle, it feels a world away.
